We advocate for women leaders in media,
working to help them succeed and thrive
The Tiffany Shackelford Foundation is a U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to opening more pathways in the media business for women and underrepresented groups.
We’ll start by helping to fund a training and mentoring program managed by the Online News Association: The 2022 Women's Leadership Accelerator.
And we’ll foster Tiffany’s vision of bringing people together.
Tiffany Shackelford embraced life with unique gusto and was enthusiastic about everything she touched, personally or professionally.
Tiffany also had unbridled passion for helping people find their own voice so they could thrive. This foundation aims to honor that ethos.
Before she died from COVID-19 complications on Dec. 27, 2020, Tiffany Shackelford was known widely as a mentor for women — and many other people who were underrepresented in media leadership. After Tiffany’s death, many provided testimonials to how she had influenced their careers and empowered them to ask for what they needed to succeed, both in work and in life. The foundation plans to fund efforts that will continue Tiffany’s work in helping emerging leaders break through barriers that might be holding them back. Find out more about Tiffany's life and work.
Tiffany was a natural leader. She was decidedly strong in her opinions, working tirelessly to show others what she meant and how they could forge their own creative vision. But she also understood the power of collaboration and empathy in leadership, often advocating in fun ways for ideas that might have seemed out of reach. “Tiffany had a way of charming everyone she met, from interns and freelancers to governors and senators. Her laughter was infectious, and even a mundane conference call could feel like a party if she was on the line,” recalled Jason Zaragoza, her former colleague at the Association of Alternative Newsmedia. Find out more about how this foundation aims to continue that jubilant spirit.
The foundation’s goal is to empower more strong leaders.
We share the values Tiffany Shackelford strived to represent in her life and work.
Your giving will help carry on Tiffany’s legacy.
The foundation will begin its work by funding women-centered initiatives at the Online News Association, which Tiffany Shackelford was deeply committed to during her life.
“Tiffany’s impact on the field of digital journalism was immeasurable.
Two words will always follow her legacy — a force. She was a force for connectedness as one of the co-founders of our first Local Group — ONADC — which later led to building 50 volunteer-run groups across the world. She was a force for journalism innovation as a previous ONA Conference co-chair. And, she was a force of a friend as she mentored, sponsored, and tirelessly helped so many members of ONA.”
